Renfro and Rogers Contribute to IICLE’s Construction Law Disputes 2025 Edition Handbook

Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorneys T. Allon Renfro and Bryan E. Rogers contributed to the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s (IICLE) Construction Disputes 2025 Edition.

Allon Renfro’s contribution to Chapter 10, Insurance Coverage for Construction Defect Claims, underscores the changing landscape of insurance coverage for construction defect claims given recent Illinois appellate court decisions which have expanded potential exposure to insurance companies.  His contribution also details the intricacies of common endorsements and exclusions relevant to construction defect claims.

Bryan Roger’s contribution to Chapter 12, Representing the Owner, highlights that disputes can arise at any stage of construction, from bidding and contract delays to post-completion defects and injury claims. Rogers notes that owners face the most significant financial exposure and must proactively structure contracts, documentation, and insurance coverage to manage risk. The chapter also examines strategies for dispute resolution, expert involvement, and insurance coverage, emphasizing that understanding delivery systems, whether design-bid-build, design-build, or integrated project delivery, is key to maintaining accountability across all project participants.
