Alasauskas to Lead Lawyers for Creative Arts Webinar on IP Issues in Sneaker Customization
Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorney Amanda J. Alasauskas will present at an upcoming Lawyers for the Creative Arts (LCA) webinar on August 26, 2025, exploring legal issues surrounding sneaker customization and modification.
The presentation will build upon Alasauskas’ blog post, Pumped Up Kicks: What’s Up in the World of Sneaker Customization, discussing the intersection of art and intellectual property, including copyright and trademark considerations, the first sale doctrine, freedom of expression, and the legal boundaries of customization versus counterfeiting. She will also share practical guidance for artists and creators, including how to legally modify sneakers, useful disclaimer language for websites and invoices, and insights from recent case law.
