Reliford, Horan & Sullivan Obtain Not Guilty Verdict in High-Stakes Paramedic Malpractice Case

Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorneys Arthur J. Reliford, Jr., Kevin P. Horan and Susan E. Sullivan obtained a defense verdict after a two week trial on behalf of their clients, The City of Chicago and two city paramedics, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.

In this case, the plaintiff alleged that the defendants failed to provide the proper level of care to the patient before being transferred to the hospital. The plaintiff alleged that the wrongful conduct of the defendants resulted in multiple cardiac arrests minutes after the transfer, resulting in being left in a Persistent Vegetative State.

Plaintiff asked the jury for an amount in excess of $25 million. After approximately 3 hours of deliberations, the jury returned a not guilty verdict in favor of the defense. The case was tried before Judge Scott McKenna.
