Former Summer Associate Kelz 711 Licensed Law Student at NIU's Civil Justice Clinic
Former Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP summer associate Mikayla Kelz spent this past semester working as a 711 Licensed Law Student at Northern Illinois University’s Civil Justice Clinic in Rockford, Illinois. She was able to gain valuable experience with her license authorized by the Illinois Supreme Court.Kelz was able to provide assistance and representation to clients seeking orders of protection, advice on various family law issues, and draft and execute Living Wills, Power of Attorneys, and various estate planning documents.
The Civil Justice Clinic at Northern Illinois University represents vulnerable citizens of Winnebago County, Illinois. The clinic prioritizes the needs of low-income senior citizens and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Our summer associate program is designed to allow the summer associates to explore different practice areas, interface with associates and partners in a collaborative environment, attend hearings and depositions, and further develop their skills in advance of a career in law. In addition, the program plans a series of social events around the city to allow the Summer Associates an opportunity to get to know the culture of Swanson, Martin & Bell outside of the office.
