Daniel J. Cozzi

Biography

Dan concentrates his practice in the areas of medical malpractice and mass tort defense, where he represents health care networks, hospitals, physicians and attorneys in malpractice lawsuits and disciplinary proceedings. He also represents clients in complex commercial litigation, medical device, product liability, cybersecurity, premises liability and third-party actions.

Dan has established a record of winning results in high-value cases. From 2012 to 2020, Dan represented a fertility and reproductive medical practice group in a mass tort action in Cook County, where 60 patients filed a claim for negligence and bailment. He successfully prosecuted third-party actions, and he obtained a notable recovery for the medical practice group. While his courtroom record is impressive, Dan has gotten many of his complex cases dismissed on dispositive motions prior to trial.

Prior to joining Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP, Dan was a partner at another prominent firm in Chicago. He also clerked for Judge Richard B. Teitelman of the Missouri Supreme Court and served as a judicial extern for Federal Magistrate Judge Michael T. Mason of the Northern District of Illinois.

Outside of work, Dan enjoys giving back to his community. He has volunteered at the Midtown Educational Foundation, tutoring underprivileged grade-school students. He also volunteers for the University of Chicago, mentoring undergraduate students interested in a career in law.
