Schichtel Honored with Two Awards in October
Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Partner Kay L. Schichtel was honored this month with two major awards celebrating her distinguished legal career.
The Jury Verdict Reporter named Schichtel a 2014 recipient of a "Jury Verdict Reporter Award for Career Achievement for a Defense Attorney", at its October 16th ceremony. Retired Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Partner Lawrence Helms received the same award in 2012.
A week later, Schichtel received the 2014 Top Women Lawyers in Leadership Award from the Women's Bar Association of Illinois. She was nominated by fellow partner Patricia S. Kocour.
Schichtel was the first female lawyer at Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon in 1974 and then became its first female partner. In 1992, she and eight attorneys founded Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP and the firm has grown to over 120 lawyers. She devotes most of her practice to defense of medical negligence claims but has substantial trial experience in other areas, including pharmaceutical and medical device litigation.
