Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Attorneys, Guests Go “Retro” For Thumbuddy Special
Bazooka® gum, Pixy Stix®, Sweet Tarts® and Zotz® were all the rage at Tavern Tree House as Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP’s Medical Negligence and Healthcare Practice Group and its guests gathered last month in support of Thumbuddy Special, an Illinois-based non-profit organization that raises money to provide adaptive equipment for children with special needs.
Over 80 legal, medical and insurance claims professionals and Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP attorneys enjoyed an evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, as well as retro candy, toys, and games. Numerous Thumbuddy Special volunteers and recipient families were also in attendance. Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Partner David J. Cahill is a member of Thumbuddy Special’s board of directors and initiated the now four-year affiliation between the firm and charity.
The retro-inspired theme was one of several new elements at this year’s party. The firm’s three offices held a “Jeans Day” prior to the party, allowing employees to join in on the fundraising efforts. The event committee used funds raised to give “a night on the town” to three Thumbuddy Special families, two of whom were present at Tavern Tree House to receive their surprise gifts.
“We were pleased to involve our entire firm in this year’s efforts to support Thumbuddy Special,” said Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Managing Partner Timothy G. Nickels. “Thumbuddy Special volunteers and families have such enthusiasm for the organization and we enjoy spreading that enthusiasm to our friends and co-workers.”
As in the past, the fundraiser’s raffle featured two grand prizes – an Apple iPad, donated by U.S. Legal Support, and tickets to an upcoming performance of “The Book of Mormon,” donated by Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP. Alma, a community college student and longtime Thumbuddy Special beneficiary, assisted firm attorneys in drawing the winning raffle tickets.
