Swanson Receives Jury Verdict Reporter Trial Lawyer Excellence Award For Lifetime Achievement

Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP founding partner Lenard C. Swanson received a Trial Lawyer Excellence Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Annual Jury Verdict Reporter Awards on October 26, 2011.
More than 200 judges and trial attorneys attended the by-invitation-only ceremony and reception at the University Club of Chicago, along with many of Lenard’s colleagues from Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP and his wife and children. Lenard and plaintiffs’ attorney Philip H. Corboy of the law firm Corboy & Demetrio, who was honored with the same award, were selected for the award based on their body of trial work and longtime mentoring of fellow attorneys.

“We are extremely proud of Len for receiving this award,” said Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Managing Partner Timothy G. Nickels. “He remains a mentor and friend to many of our attorneys and we are proud to work at a firm that bears his name.”

Lenard received his B.S. in 1963 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his J.D. in 1967 from the University of Illinois College of Law. His legal career began in 1967 at the law firm Chadwell, Keck, Kayser, Ruggles & McLaren, where he was an associate. In 1969, he joined the law firm Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon as an associate and eventually became partner.

In 1992, Lenard and eight Wildman partners formed Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP. He remained active in his areas of practice, the defense of product liability and medical negligence claims, until retiring in 2000. Mr. Swanson was named a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and also maintained membership in the Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, Society of Trial Lawyers and Product Liability Advisory Council.
