Drumke Caps TIPS Chairmanship With ABA Annual Conference, Awards Ceremonies

Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP Partner Michael W. Drumke caps off a year as Chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) next week with several events connected to the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

With over 25,000 members and 32 general committees, TIPS unites plaintiff, defense, insurance and corporate counsel to advance the civil justice system in one of the ABA’s largest sections.
 
Drumke and TIPS will honor four recipients for their outstanding leadership qualities, service to TIPS, and their commitment to advancing justice, scholarship and the legal profession. Media professionals are welcome to attend the following events:

Friday, July 31st
TIPS Welcome and Liberty Achievement Award Reception
6:30 p.m. at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 East Washington Street
  • Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans will receive the Liberty Achievement Award, which honors lawyers and judges who take a leadership role by demonstrating, through choices made in their careers and work done in private- or public-sector positions, that they have actively promoted diversity in the legal profession.
  • Chicago plaintiff’s attorney Bruce R. Pfaff of the law firm of Pfaff, Gill & Ports, Ltd. will receive the Pursuit of Justice Award, which recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all.
Saturday, August 1st
James K. Carroll Leadership and Awards Dinner
6:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower, 233 South Wacker Drive
  • Charleston, S.C. attorney Timothy W. Bouch of the law firm of Leath, Bouch & Seekings, LLP will receive the James K. Carroll Leadership Award, honoring members who have shown outstanding leadership qualities and service to the TIPS Section
  • U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Guido Calabresi of New Haven, Conn. will receive the Robert B. McKay Law Professor Award, which honors lawyers committed to advancing justice, scholarship and the legal profession, as demonstrated by their contributions to the fields of tort and insurance law.
In addition to serving as TIPS Immediate Past-Chair for 2015-2016, Drumke has been named Chair-Elect of the ABA’s Section Officers Conference (SOC), the organizing body for all ABA Sections, Divisions and Forums. He will become Chair of the SOC at the ABA Annual Meeting on July 31, and in that role will serve as a liaison to the ABA Board of Governors.
